Cavitron Care Online Support FAQ

Why won't the Cavitron's water line connection fit the receptacle on my dental treatment unit?

Why won't the Prohy-Jet's air line connection fit the receptacle in my dental office?

By default, DENTSPLY installs a 1/4" male quick connect with automatic shut-off on the end of the water and air supply hoses for the pupose of safely and securely connecting the Cavitron to a water and/or air supply in the dental office. Although this connection is quite common, other varieties are available and in use in the dental industry. If you are experiencing connectivity problems in your office, it is possible that the installed female connection for the water and/or air supply is not compatible with the connector recommended for use with Cavitron systems.

This may occur when connecting the water and/or air lines to certain mobile and chairside dental delivery systems where the manufacturer or equipment installation technician has installed a female connection compatible only with specific male connectors from that specific manufacturer. Please contact your local dental equipment retailer / service personnel for assistance with installation of compatible water or air supply connections. DENTSPLY is unable to support or resell male or female connections from other dental equipment manufacturers.

Wherever possible, DENTSPLY recommends the installation of a 1/4" quick connect with automatic shut-off for both male and female water and air line connections in the office. The automatic shut-off feature helps prevent accidental reductions in water/air flow, and automatically stops water and/or air flow in the event of an accidental disconnect. All DENTSPLY Cavitron and Prophy-Jet equipment is fully compatible with this type of connection. If it is not possible to have the female connection in the dental office replaced with such a connection, the male quick connect on the end of the Cavitron's supply line can be easily replaced in most cases with one from another manufacturer. Alternative connections are not sold by DENTSPLY, and must be ordered separately from the manfacturer which supplies them. With a small adjustable wrench, loosen the compression nut where the hose and connector attach, then pull the connector free from the hose. Follow instructions supplied with the new connector to install it in place of the default connection.

Please be aware of the risks associated to various alternative types of water and air line connections, especially those which incorparate manual shut-off valves. Your Cavitron system's warranty does not cover damage resulting from the use of non-DENTSPLY supply line quick connects.
